The Kisumu Basketball League shall be governed by a League Management Committee comprising 5 Executive Members with inclusion of additional ex-officio members on need or advisory basis. Their main roles include:

  • KBL Administrative & Operational Policy formulation & Implementation.
  • KBL Financial, Infrastructural & Resource mobilization developmental Strategic planning & Management.
  • KBL & related Fixtures, Competitions & Events management.
  • Handling Disciplinary issues that may occur in the running of the League or related KBL activities.
  • Dispute resolution & General Governance of KBL related activities.

2026 Season Rules & Regulations

League Fees: Teams will be required to pay KES.15,000/- for Participation in the Pilot season from February to June. This amount will cover both the 5x5 & 3x3 competitions that will run as per the League calendar. Please note that all payments made to KBL Shall be done only via the bank account provided in the teams' invitation letters & receipted for accountability & record keeping.

Awards & Prizes: KBL will give a Cash Award of KES.25,000/- for the 5x5 Champions & 15,000/- for 3x3 Champions will be awarded by the league after the final games for each category.

Competition format (5x5): Each Club will play 6 Home & 6 Away games with the top 4 ranked Teams by points tally at the end of the regular season meeting in the semis (1vs4 & 2v3) and the emerging winners completing for the KBL inaugural KBL 5x5 Championship title.

Competition Format (3x3): Each Club will be allocated 2 Slots to present 2 teams to compete from any of the Main Club Roster players during every game day. The top 8 teams will match up in the quatre finals (1v8, 2v7, 3v6 & 4v5). Top 4 teams to the Semi finals & Finalists will compete for the inaugural KBL 3x3 Championship title.

Venues & Equipment: All KBL games for the first edition will be played at venues within Kisumu town as determined & communicated by the League Mgt Committee. Teams with alternative home courts within Kisumu Town may communicate officially to the League for inspection and approval before adoption as one of KBL venues. KBL will provide standard game balls, nets, scoreboards and scoresheets to enhance the quality & management of the games.

Fixtures & Forfeits: Will be released at the beginning of the season & at the beginning of the second leg and will run as per the League Calendar dates (5x5 Games played twice a month & 3x3 Games played once a month) for 5 months between February & June 2026. Teams requesting change of fixtures will communicate to the league through the KBL official email address & pay a non-refundable fee of KS.1,500/- at least 7 days before the scheduled game day. The League committee will assess each request and give an official determination & Communication within 3 working days of receiving the request. Teams that forfeit any 3 games in a season will be considered as having excluded themselves from all KBL & Related activities and all its members will be ineligible to participate in any KBL related activities for the remainder of the season. All pending games affecting the said team as a rest will be awarded as wins for the opponents as scheduled and affected Clubs may be barred from participating in any & all future KBL Activities.

Code of Conduct: KBL will enforce Strict policies & Consequent disciplinary actions against profanity, fighting, abuse of officials, intoxication while participating in a game (Players, game officials &/or coaches and team registered team officials) and any other actions that the League Management Committee will determine as detrimental to peaceful co-existence & running of league and league activities. KBL will impose fines, suspensions & other Alternative Dispute Resolution measures to mitigate each Occurrence.

Club Rosters: Each Club will register a combined maximum of 20 Players & 5 Officials for the season with a provision of not more than 8 players per Club taking part in National leagues within or outside Kenya. Clubs may continue to acquire & progressively fill up the allocated Roster spots until the end of the trade/transfer period. The monthly Roster for the monthly 3x3 teams may change as per Club preferences but with 3x3 Team names remaining the same for cumulative points tally. Teams are encouraged to develop young players & all players below 18 Years will be required to sign a league indemnity and parental consent to be allowed to take part in any KBL games.

Player Transfers: KBL Transfer period will begin on 1st of April 2026 and/or upon completion of all 1st Leg scheduled games and close on 10th of April 2026. A transfer request form will be provided by KBL on request for each transfer request to be filled and returned with a KS.2,500/- non-refundable fee before the end of the transfer period and KBL will publish & communicate approved transfers before beginning of the 2nd Leg fixtures.

Kitting: All clubs will be required to submit one dominant & one alternate team color for kits to be used in KBL (5x5 & 3x3) Games & to be provided by respective Clubs. Players from each team will be required to be properly dressed in complete & uniform Basketball playing kits with proper marking (Top & bottom) before being allowed to play. KBL will provide kitting for Allstar and other League organized games / Teams & events.
